Department of Veterans AffairsIn April of 2019, SEIU Local 551, representing employees at the Richard L. Roudebush VAMC in Indianapolis, Indiana and surrounding clinics, filed a grievance against the VA on behalf of all its bargaining unit employees. The Grievance alleged violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Title V (FEPA), among other violations.

The Law Offices of Snider and Associates, as the legal representatives for the Union, are working hard for the bargaining unit employees to ensure that their rights under federal law are upheld. As part of the process, we have been contacting VA employees about their job duties and how much unpaid overtime they have worked.

The matter has proceeded to arbitration, with Arbitrator Ronald F. Talarico presiding. Hearings in the matter are scheduled to begin later in 2025. The subjects of the hearings will include testimony from bargaining unit employees who were not properly compensated for overtime, as well as the propriety of the Agency’s FLSA exemptions.

If you are or were in the SEIU 551 bargaining unit at the Indianapolis VA, please go to www.seiuflsa.com and complete the initial survey to share information about overtime for which you did not receive proper compensation.

All Title 5 and Title 38 hybrid bargaining unit employees, whether or not they are members of the union, and regardless of position or pay grade, may be covered by this grievance and could potentially benefit from a successful result.
