In March of 2023, AFGE Local 1633, representing employees at the Michael E. DeBakey VAMC in Houston, Texas and surrounding clinics, filed a grievance against the VA on behalf of all its bargaining unit employees. The Grievance alleged violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Title V (FEPA), among other violations.

The Law Offices of Snider and Associates and the Pines Federal Employment Attorneys (www.pinesfederal.com), as the legal representatives for the Union, are working hard for the bargaining unit employees to ensure that their rights under federal law are upheld. As part of the process, we have been contacting VA employees about their job duties and how much unpaid overtime they have worked.

The Parties have not yet selected an arbitrator and are currently working towards exchanging information with the goal of resolving the matter.

All Title 5 and Title 38 hybrid bargaining unit employees, whether or not they are members of the union, and regardless of position or pay grade, may be covered by this grievance and could potentially benefit from a successful result.
